GirlDad Diary: From the Forest
I’ve just dropped my baby girl off at school and wanted to head home to write up some blogs to discuss my maternity photography but boy, writers block sure is real. So, I decided to change the scene and get into my truck to drive to this park that I absolutely love called Ephraim Hunt Ministerial Land Loop in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
Not only are my creative juices flowing but the peacefulness of listening to the bird’s chirp, the wind blow against the leaves of the trees puts you in a contemplative state. My girl is probably laughing at school, playing with toys, and learning something new which I’ll hear about later this afternoon.
So, why do I shoot maternity portraits? It feels like my baby girl was born yesterday but now she’s 5 in PreK soon heading into Kindergarten. One of my and my wife’s favorite pastimes is to turn on that Apple TV and play memories going back to when she was born, her first steps, her first visit to the zoo, to the strawberry farm and it never fails, every single time... we sit there in pure awe. Where in the world did time go? Now she’s got her own mind with her own thoughts and opinions. These moments last for a short time. The more we watch the memory reel on Apple TV, the more we realize how invaluable these photographs are. If I can help others freeze time when they’re living in these precious moments of pregnancy and create artwork that’ll be hung up on walls to be admired for years and years, my mission is accomplished.
