Can I Bring My Partner or Kids to My Maternity Photoshoot?
This is one of the most common questions we get at Motherly Portraits — and it usually comes with a little nervous energy behind it:
“I’d love to include my husband and my toddler, but is that okay?”
“Should I just do solo shots?”
“Will it be too chaotic if my kids come?”
First of all — take a deep breath. The short answer is:
Yes, you can absolutely bring your partner, your kids, and even your fur baby. And no, it doesn’t have to feel stressful.
In fact, we love when the whole family gets involved.
Let’s walk through what that can look like — and how we make sure everyone feels comfortable and seen during the shoot (even the squirmy toddlers).
We Work Around Kids’ Energy (Not Against It)
Kids are unpredictable. We get that. That’s why we:
Keep snacks and toys on hand
Have space for little ones to take breaks
Don’t expect perfection — we look for connection
Build in time so you’re never watching the clock
If your child needs a moment to regroup? Totally fine. We’ll grab a coffee, play some music, and go at their pace.
Some of our most heartfelt photos have come from in-between moments — messy hugs, tiny hands on bellies, quiet laughs between contractions of chaos.
Your Partner’s Role Is What You Want It to Be
Some partners want to be hands-on: helping choose outfits, hyping you up, getting in the frame. Others prefer to sit quietly on the couch, watching the game on their phone until it’s their turn.
Either way, it’s okay.
We make space for everyone to feel comfortable and supportive in their own way. This is your time, and their role is whatever feels right for your family dynamic.
(And yes, we’ve got mirrors, charging stations, snacks, toys, refreshments, and for the dads, a nice 4K TV too. We see you, fellas.)
